Charlie Sexton, raised in Austin, Texas, made his debut
with Pictures For Pleasure in 1985 at age 16. He followed that up with
a self-titled second album when he was 20. Because word of his reputation
as a prodigy guitar player spread far and wide, he found himself an in-demand
session player while still in his late teens, and he had the opportunity
to record with Ron Wood, Keith Richards and Bob Dylan. From
1992 to 1994, he was a member of Austin's Arc Angels, along with Doyle
Bramhall II, Tommy Shannon and Chris "Whipper'' Layton. In 1994 and
1995, he formed and recorded with his new group, the Charlie Sexton Sextet,

DJ
Logic
www.djlogic.com
Turntable maestro DJ Logic (real name Jason Kibler) is
widely credited for helping to bring jazz into hip-hop's sphere of influence.
Hailing from the Bronx, he kicked off his adventures on the decks in the
1980s by playing at local community events. The next decade, however,
saw him growing rapidly in stature as a pro musician. First he joined
the group Eye & I, performing with such bands as Living Color and
Body Count. He then hooked up with talented jazz trio MMW (keyboardist
John Medeski, drummer Billy Martin, and bassist Chris Wood), touring heavily
and working on the celebrated Combustication record. He released his debut
album, the aptly titled Project Logic, to wide critical acclaim in 1999.
Two years later, he was again collecting plaudits en masse after putting
out the cutting-edge Anomaly album. Logic surfaced alongside guitarist
Vernon Reid in 2002 for Front End Lifter, a fun, adventurous album the
two recorded as Yohimbe Brothers and then toured behind late in the year.
Doug
Pinnick
www.kingsxonline.com
www.myspace.com/dugpinnick
Doug Pinnick is known first and foremost as the soulful
singer and bassist for hard rockers King's X. Born September 3, 1950,
in Joliet, IL, Pinnick discovered rock & roll through such greats
as Sly and the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin, while he
borrowed from gospel for his singing style. When a gig backing up Christian
guitarist Phil Keaggy broke up in the early '80s, Pinnick formed a new
band with fellow ex-Keaggy member Jerry Gaskill (drums) and guitarist
Ty Tabor. It would take several years of playing covers in bars throughout
the South before the new band would click musically and eventually settle
on a name: King's X. Signing to Megaforce/Atlantic in 1987, the trio became
a favorite with the metal and progressive rock crowd; their music also
contained elements of alternative in their hard rock, long before it became
en vogue during the '90s. Pinnick is one of the few bassists of hard rock
who uses a 12-string bass regularly, which is a major ingredient to the
magical King's X sound. After six critically acclaimed releases, Pinnick
released his first solo album, Massive Grooves From the Electric Church
of Psychofunkadelic Grungelism Rock Music, in 1998 under the alias Poundhound.

Stephen
Bruton
www.stephenbruton.com
Bruton’s resume includes a 17-year, on-and-off stint

and subsequent world tours as a member of Bonnie Raitt’s band in
the early 1990s. He’s also got a sleeve’s-length list of credits
as a producer, including such critically-appraised gems as Jimmie Dale
Gilmore’s After Awhile, Chris Smither’s Up On the Lowdown,
Alejandro Escovedo’s With These Hands and Hal Ketchum’s Awaiting
Redemption.
But it wasn’t
until Bruton officially retired from the road and came home to Austin
in 1993 that he got around to making an album of his own, What It Is.
This was followed by two more solo efforts, Right On Time in 1995 and
his 1998 New West debut, Nothing But the Truth.
